The evening of a meal, the medication works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach (sodium normally produced) at the esophagus. Esomeprazole can also be used to treat proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as ranitidine (Lantus) which are used in the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.
The active ingredient in ranitidine is esomeprazole. Esomeprazole is available as 20mg tablets and as the Magnesium Trihydrate delayed-release tablets.
Use one 24-hour supply with each main meal containing fat. Take this medication by mouth with 1 or 2 doses of the evening food. If you take it with food, take it with food to prevent stomach upset, or with food, avoid taking it 24 hours before or after food.
